electoralunreality

The Canada that was all about military cred
and stern reminders and furrowed brow authority seemed faint, anachronistic,
a mere residue around the edges of politics. Any of the three parties as likely
to have some of the heavy lumber of earlier Cdn tradition. And rightly so.
The hidden lie of the classy wooden politicians was that they were vouchsafing
and giving credibility to a politic that shut out much of the population,
with portions of the populace shut out amounting to a sizeable majority
of the people here: Women, French, Native, Non-English-Scottish-Immigrants,
which would have been at least 85% of the populace. So I guess
the renewed conservatism is because a lot of people have been
incorporated over the years? Or just one way or the other impatience
has become a dominating feature of everyone’s daily life.
One way or the other I react with disbelief to nearly every voice
on every discussion panel I hear or see, regarding electoral politics.
The Conservatives discussed as if they were plausible,
as if they genuinely meant anything they ever said.
Politicians like Toews who is so wooden he makes the wooden ones of yore
seem colourful. He visitted windsor this week… what he doesn’t know about windsor could fill a universe. why not have a dead parrot on a stick visit windsor? The appearance is that if they get a majority they will imprison 20% of the population and all work as advisors for american prison companies after they’re voted out of office. Julian Fantino is probably the fakest human being I’ve ever encountered. And Stephen Harper seems like someone who was told by their mom they didn’t have to exist in any way at all, and could just stand there
being polished and framed by handlers… while in his beady little mind
he harbours all this fest up rage a so much of actual Canada.
All this faking liking it, he likes beatles and tim hortons and maple leafs
but people? Is he aware of their presence? Incubator image man.
Ha! The fact is it’s only because I’m in such a good mood
I can even look at that side of the culture. Usually I just think of myself
as living in some alien land where no one makes any sense
and there’s not much point wondering about what they’ll do.
Scrap with them like one general monolith, in their army of cars
storming through red lights and yelling at their families and employees
while a nervous disconnected public whispers away in the cell phones.
And huge swathes of the public just tune it all out and go dancing
or watch nutty stuff on tv. General chaos. Swirling in the air above us.
I can’t believe it’s given plausibility.
