GemCat’s Defnitely Back, Nov 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — oversion @ 3:42 am

It’s thrilling, startling, transcendentally surprising. The Gem Cat, last of the original momcat’s scampering brood, or his son or nephew, but that classic of the feral breed, somehow is fully returned. Seeing the obviously related one last week was heart warming, but now fully re-established to hanging out in front of russian salvage, (I’ve won them over now, get a friendly nod, all my photographing and tromping along and friendship with the animals)

But now doing as ever the GemCat did, along that bank of weeds, under the fences, tonight, glinting sleet in the thorny wind, cold, I leant over the girter and there the cat was, seemingly contentedly cleaning himself in the breeze. One thing suggesting this one is newer generation, one of the kittens from under the truck behind mandarin, is how responsive, when I say something this gemcat stops and looks. But arguing for this being the actual gemcat himself returned (Ommm!) is that KC again sees this one in our front parking lot, before dawn, checking around, ‘but that it now has no tail’ which lends to the idea it was a capture and release… Gem’s tail looked terrible in the spring. Amazing return of Gem.
