Could it be finer without the Leafs. The chance to see the brilliant Pittsburgh Pennsylvanians have another go at the class of the league, Michigan’s Detroit Red Wings. C’est fin. …A glorious road here though, aye remember opening night, was it the Monarch this year? Does the camera go back that far? Best final in years to follow, starting Saturday night. But let’s review:
Back as of Easter this year, 2009, Spitfires wee already rocketting along through the playoffs. Three scoring lines, most of the defense with NHL potential, a tough fast team then dealing with a heavy duty opponent in Plymouth, caught on Windsor’s community channel, with so many fights, line brawls ! that my mother took to tending the potted plants all around the tv while I tried to photograph it. “Don’t get out of the way please I want to get a picture of that,” I said happily, as the Spits campaigned to victory.

And on to the present.
While the Pennsylvanians and Michiganers were closing in on the Conference titles the Spitfires were coming alive at the Memorial Cup in Rimouski. The home Quebec teams, Drummondville and Rimouski, were talented and intense, both beating Windsor in the round robin portion.
See the robin up there? Even the robins in High Park are a deeper brighter colour, try to zoom.
In any case, Windsor came back. I tire a bit of commentators asking what the Memorial Cup Win means to Windsor with the economic trouble. Unfortunately it won’t effect the economic trouble. I wouldn’t be surprised one day if Windsor had some sort of glory era as a city though. But it’s good for hockey visavis Windsor. Great for the team.

Then it was off to the Miramichi from Rimouski to see Detroit finish off Chicago. My cat that went to Chicago and had his flight drugs wear off in O Hara Airoport would likely savour this victory even more than his hockey equivalent, his wily cat’s avatar Chris Chelios of the Wings, former Hawk, Chelios, same age as me, miraculously still playing with his liquid stride, pure savvy, which he had decades ago already when he started out with Montreal. Still they call it veteran savvy. Fine. Greek savvy. It’s the stride, It’s artistry. Absolutely super player.
And shall they ask what the Red Wings victory means to the economy there?

It means they won.

But Pittsburgh is fast!
